Embedded Software V&V Engineer (Contract)

About the role

The role is an on‑site contract position in Bristol, focused on verification and validation of real‑time embedded software for next‑generation missile systems. You will translate system requirements into robust test cases, execute those tests in a lab environment, capture data and provide actionable feedback to the development team.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and maintain test cases and procedures from system requirements.
• Execute functional and performance tests on electro‑mechanical products running embedded software.
• Capture, analyse and report test data to project stakeholders.
• Collaborate with software and hardware engineers to resolve defects.
• Document test results and maintain traceability throughout the software lifecycle.

Required profile

• Strong experience in V&V activities within an embedded software environment.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
• Excellent communication and documentation skills.
• Problem‑solving mindset with attention to detail.

Required skills

• Embedded software development using C/C++.
• Scripting for test automation.
• Real‑Time Operating Systems (RTOS) knowledge.
• Experience with test automation tools and methods.
• Familiarity with DOORS, Engineering Workflow Management (EWM), Rapita Suite, Rhapsody, LDRA.
• Knowledge of standards such as DefStan 00‑55, DO‑178C, DO‑330.
• Model‑Driven Design, breakpoint analysis and focused code reviews.
