Emergency Duty Team Manager

About the role

The Emergency Duty Team Manager will lead a small, high‑performing team of qualified Social Workers and Approved Mental Health Professionals at West Hartford Fire Station in Cramlington. This senior position combines direct practice with strategic oversight, ensuring safe, timely and legally robust interventions for vulnerable adults and children.

Key responsibilities

• Lead, supervise and appraise a multidisciplinary team of Social Workers and AMHPs.
• Manage the Emergency Duty rota, responding to short‑notice gaps and high‑pressure incidents.
• Oversee workload distribution and operational flow to maintain service quality.
• Drive performance against targets and ensure compliance with statutory frameworks.
• Take primary responsibility for adult safeguarding and child protection duties.
• Provide expert guidance on complex cases, applying relevant legislation decisively.

Required profile

• Qualified Social Worker with current AMHP registration.
• Post‑qualification experience in both adult and children services.
• Proven experience supervising and mentoring staff.
• Strong knowledge of the Children Act, Care Act, Mental Capacity Act and Mental Health Act.
• Resilient, solutions‑focused leader able to challenge conventional thinking.
