Employee Relations Manager – NHS (Hybrid, Contract)

About the role

We are looking for an experienced Employee Relations Manager to join a complex NHS organisation in Croydon. Working closely with the Head of Employee Relations, you will lead a professional service, oversee complex casework and ensure investigations are fair, consistent and delivered on time.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and manage complex disciplinary, grievance, bullying, harassment and capability cases.
• Provide expert advice aligned with NHS policies, employment law and ACAS guidance.
• Oversee investigations, hearings, appeals and ensure thorough, evidence‑based outcomes.
• Maintain confidentiality and manage sensitive employee relations information.
• Build effective relationships with trade unions and senior stakeholders.
• Line‑manage Senior Employee Relations Advisers, set quality standards and monitor performance.
• Draft, review and implement policies, guidance and tools for managers and staff.
• Design and deliver employee relations training for NHS managers.
• Analyse data, produce KPI reports and drive service improvements.

Required profile

• Proven experience in employee relations within a large public or healthcare organisation.
• Strong knowledge of NHS terms and conditions, UK employment law and ACAS best practice.
• Demonstrated ability to lead a team and manage high‑volume, complex casework.
• Excellent stakeholder management skills, including experience working with trade unions.
• Ability to produce clear, evidence‑based investigation reports and recommendations.
