About the role
The Legists are looking for an Employment Barrister to join their Bristol office. The successful candidate will provide specialist employment law advice to government departments, supporting ministers and senior officials on complex legal matters.
Key responsibilities
- Advise ministers, departmental officials and other stakeholders on employment law issues.
- Prepare and review legal opinions, guidance notes and draft legislation.
- Manage a caseload of employment disputes, including litigation and alternative dispute resolution.
- Collaborate with other legal teams across the Government Legal Department on cross‑cutting projects.
- Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of UK employment legislation and related EU law.
Required profile
- A qualified Solicitor, Barrister or Chartered Legal Executive.
- Strong analytical and judgment skills with the ability to provide balanced, risk‑based advice.
- Excellent communication skills, able to explain complex legal issues clearly.
- Willingness to work collaboratively in a fast‑paced, high‑visibility environment.
