Energy Support Officer – Local Authority

About the role

The Local Authority in Berkshire is seeking an Energy Support Officer to join its Housing and Energy Support Team. You will work directly with residents, helping them reduce energy bills, improve home efficiency, and address damp or mould issues in council‑owned properties.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct home energy efficiency assessments and identify improvement opportunities.
• Provide advice on reducing energy consumption and managing household bills.
• Assist residents in accessing grants, schemes, and other financial support.
• Liaise with energy suppliers on behalf of residents when required.
• Visit and follow up with residents across the borough, maintaining accurate case records.
• Assess damp and mould problems and give practical prevention advice.
• Collaborate with housing teams and external partner agencies.
• Promote energy support services through community events and outreach.
• Handle customer enquiries professionally within agreed timescales.
• Contribute to service performance targets and continuous improvement initiatives.

Required profile

• Minimum 5 GCSEs (or equivalent), including English and Mathematics.
• Experience providing advice and support to the public.
• Proven ability to manage multiple cases or workloads simultaneously.
• Experience maintaining accurate records and producing reports.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Able to explain complex information clearly to diverse audiences.
• Demonstrated independence and initiative in work.
