Engineering Lead – Digital Tools & Partnerships

About the role

Our client, a leading consultancy, is seeking an Engineering Lead to drive the Digital Tools & Partnerships workstream within a large‑scale enterprise transformation programme. The role will provide technical leadership across several engineering teams, ensuring the delivery of scalable, cloud‑native solutions and seamless integration with critical business systems.

Key responsibilities

• Provide engineering leadership and technical oversight across multiple delivery teams.
• Define, implement and enforce engineering standards, development processes and architecture best practices.
• Act as the senior escalation point for complex engineering challenges and production issues.
• Design and deliver enterprise integrations involving Sage and other business‑critical systems.
• Guide implementation of scalable integration patterns across APIs, middleware, event‑driven platforms and external systems.
• Collaborate with architects, product teams, vendors and business stakeholders to ensure successful solution delivery.
• Drive best practices in software engineering, DevOps, observability, resiliency and operational excellence.
• Conduct architecture reviews, code reviews and technical design assessments.
• Mentor engineering teams and contribute hands‑on to troubleshooting, prototyping and implementation activities.

Required profile

• Proven experience as an Engineering Lead, Technical Lead, Principal Engineer or similar senior technical role.
• Strong background in backend software engineering and enterprise integration.
• Experience designing and implementing APIs, microservices, middleware solutions and event‑driven architectures.
• Experience integrating enterprise platforms such as Sage, ERP or finance systems.
• Deep knowledge of AWS and cloud‑native architectures.
• Hands‑on experience with CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure automation and DevOps practices.
• Excellent troubleshooting, problem‑solving and stakeholder management skills.
