Engineering Lead – London or Manchester (Hybrid)

About the role

We are seeking an Engineering Lead to join a large UK client, working from either the London or Manchester office two days a week and remotely the rest of the time. In this senior position you will drive the design, development and delivery of high‑performance software solutions while mentoring multiple engineering teams.

Key responsibilities

• Define and execute the technical strategy, advising on product roadmaps and migration plans.
• Ensure architectural excellence, scalability, availability and performance of client systems.
• Monitor technical progress, report status to senior stakeholders and safeguard delivery quality.
• Design and develop reusable libraries, APIs and micro‑service components.
• Write unit and integration tests within automated test environments.
• Lead and grow 3‑4 engineering teams (30‑40 staff total), overseeing delivery standards.

Required profile

• Extensive background in software engineering, design and architecture, preferably with SOA or micro‑services experience.
• Proven experience leading large software development teams (20+ members) and implementing technical strategies.
• Strong ability to translate business requirements into robust technical solutions.
• Experience supporting, modifying and maintaining codebases created by other teams.
