Engineering Manager

About the role

Envar is seeking an Engineering Manager to lead the engineering and maintenance function across its flagship composting facility in Woodhurst, Cambridgeshire. You will be responsible for ensuring that all plant, machinery, vehicles and fixed assets operate safely, reliably and efficiently while supporting production targets and regulatory compliance.

Key responsibilities

• Lead, develop and mentor the on‑site engineering team.
• Establish engineering standards, procedures and performance expectations.
• Drive a proactive maintenance culture focused on reliability and continuous improvement.
• Plan, execute and continuously improve preventative maintenance programmes.
• Maintain an accurate asset register and lifecycle management system.
• Monitor plant performance, analyse breakdown trends and implement corrective actions.
• Manage all planned, preventative and reactive maintenance activities to minimise downtime.
• Ensure compliance with health and safety legislation, permits, lockout/tagout and contractor management.
• Conduct engineering risk assessments and oversee corrective actions.
• Support environmental permit compliance and regulatory requirements.
• Lead capital improvement projects, develop business cases, specifications and oversee installation, commissioning and handover of new assets.

Required profile

• Proven experience leading engineering or maintenance teams in an industrial environment.
• Strong understanding of asset reliability, preventative maintenance and root‑cause analysis.
• Knowledge of health, safety and environmental regulations applicable to waste‑processing facilities.
• Demonstrated ability to manage capital projects, budgets and timelines.
• Excellent communication, coaching and stakeholder management skills.
