Engineering Safety Coordinator

About the role

The Engineering Safety Coordinator will be the central point for safety activities across the Skelmersdale site, supporting engineering teams, contractors and site leadership to embed robust health‑and‑safety practices. This newly created fixed‑term role offers the chance to influence safety culture, drive compliance and lead improvement projects in a high‑activity engineering environment.

Key responsibilities

• Issue, manage and monitor Permit to Work (PTW) systems.
• Coordinate contractor control, supervision and performance management.
• Conduct regular safety tours, inspections and audits.
• Lead safety improvement projects and site‑wide initiatives.
• Chair and coordinate engineering safety meetings and Pulse meetings.
• Support the Safety Steering Group and deliver safety training, including LOTO.
• Lead accident and incident investigations with root‑cause analysis.
• Ensure compliance with site safety standards, policies and procedures.
• Support Risk Assessment and Method Statement (RAMS) reviews.
• Drive behavioural safety programmes and employee engagement.
• Monitor, analyse and report safety KPIs and trends.
• Manage confined‑space equipment and associated safety processes.

Required profile

• Proven experience in an engineering, manufacturing, food‑manufacturing or industrial setting.
• Strong knowledge of health‑and‑safety legislation and safe systems of work.
• Experience managing contractors and PTW systems.
• Demonstrated ability to conduct investigations and root‑cause analysis.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder‑management skills.
• Track record of driving engagement and improving safety culture.
• Experience delivering training and coaching.
