Estimator – Bespoke Engineering Projects

About the role

We are seeking an Estimator to join a well‑established engineering business in Braintree. The role focuses on delivering accurate, commercially sound quotations for highly bespoke engineering projects across multiple sectors.

Key responsibilities

• Interpret technical drawings and specifications to produce detailed cost estimates.
• Take full ownership of enquiries from initial review through to final quotation.
• Collaborate with design, production and sales teams to gather technical insight.
• Proactively source pricing for materials, components and specialist services.
• Identify missing information, propose alternatives and assess potential risks.
• Build comprehensive cost models and prepare technical and commercial proposals for tender submissions.
• Support handover of successful projects to delivery/operations teams.
• Assist with tender review, governance processes and maintain accurate quotation records.
• Continuously seek improvements in estimating processes and support business development activities.

Required profile

• Previous experience in estimating, engineering or a technical environment.
• Experience with sheet metal work.
• Strong commercial awareness and attention to detail.
• Confident use of Microsoft Excel and general IT systems.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Self‑motivated, able to investigate, question and solve problems independently.
