Estimator – Civil Engineering & Infrastructure

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Estimator to join the commercial team of a well‑established contractor delivering complex civil engineering, infrastructure and rail projects. Based in Leeds, you will play a pivotal part in the pre‑construction phase, producing accurate cost plans and competitive tender submissions.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare detailed cost plans and tender submissions for a variety of infrastructure and construction projects.
• Develop estimates using first‑principles pricing, incorporating labour, plant, materials, subcontractor packages and logistics.
• Produce and maintain Schedules of Rates based on resource analysis and benchmark pricing.
• Carry out quantity take‑offs from drawings and specifications using digital and manual methods.
• Review contract documents, bills of quantities and technical specifications to inform estimates.
• Obtain and assess quotations from subcontractors and suppliers to ensure robust tender pricing.
• Identify commercial, technical and programme risks and contribute to risk mitigation plans.
• Collaborate with planning, engineering, operations and commercial teams to deliver practical and competitive proposals.

Required profile

• Proven experience as an estimator within civil engineering, infrastructure or rail sectors.
• Strong understanding of construction methodologies, sequencing and temporary works.
• Ability to interpret contract documents and assess project risks.
• Excellent numerical and analytical skills with attention to detail.

Required skills

• Knowledge of NEC contracts and framework agreements.
• Experience performing quantity take‑offs from engineering drawings.
• Proficiency in cost estimating techniques and building Schedules of Rates.
