Estimator – Groundworks & Civil Engineering

About the role

Our client, a well‑established groundworks and civil engineering contractor based in South Birmingham, is seeking an experienced Estimator to join the commercial team. The role involves preparing accurate and competitive tenders for groundwork, drainage, roads, foundations and external works projects across the Midlands.

Key responsibilities

• Review tender enquiries, drawings, specifications and contract documents.
• Prepare detailed cost estimates for groundworks and civil engineering projects.
• Obtain and analyse supplier and subcontractor quotations.
• Carry out quantity take‑offs and cost planning exercises.
• Assess project risks and identify value‑engineering opportunities.
• Liaise with clients, contractors, suppliers and internal teams throughout the tender process.
• Prepare tender submissions and supporting documentation.
• Attend pre‑ and post‑tender meetings as required.
• Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of market rates and industry trends.

Required profile

• Proven experience as an Estimator in groundworks, civil engineering or construction.
• Strong understanding of groundwork packages including drainage, roads, foundations and external works.
• Ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications.
• Excellent commercial awareness and attention to detail.
• Full UK driving licence preferred.

Required skills

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
• Experience with estimating software.
