Ex-Offender Mentor – Help Individuals Reintegrate

About the role

This permanent position supports people in custody to develop confidence, skills and resilience for successful community reintegration. Working within HMP Channings Wood, you will guide participants through assessment, planning and release preparation.

Key responsibilities

• Manage a caseload of offenders throughout their custodial journey.
• Conduct assessments and create personalised action plans.
• Deliver one‑to‑one and group interventions to motivate positive behavioural change.
• Facilitate access to housing, wellbeing, training, education, substance‑misuse and mental‑health services.
• Collaborate with peer mentors, volunteers and external agencies.
• Maintain accurate case records and follow safeguarding procedures.
• Work towards individual and team performance targets.

Required profile

• Empathetic, resilient and committed to supporting positive life changes.
• Experience in probation, social care, prison settings, rehabilitation, substance‑misuse, mental health, housing or community outreach is desirable.
• Recent graduates with an interest in the criminal‑justice sector are welcome.

• Ability to build trusting relationships with diverse individuals.
• Strong communication and motivational skills.
• Knowledge of safeguarding and risk‑management procedures.
• Proficiency with case‑management systems for accurate record‑keeping.
