Ex-Offender Mentor

About the role

Join a dedicated team supporting individuals in custody to develop confidence, skills and resilience for successful reintegration. As an Ex‑Offender Mentor you will work within HMP Portland, providing one‑to‑one and group guidance throughout the custodial journey.

Key responsibilities

• Manage a caseload of participants from assessment to release planning.
• Develop personalised action plans and deliver tailored support.
• Facilitate group interventions that encourage motivation and positive behavioural change.
• Assist participants in accessing housing, wellbeing, training, education, substance‑misuse and community resources.
• Collaborate with peer mentors, volunteers and external agencies to achieve outcomes.
• Maintain accurate case records and follow safeguarding procedures.
• Work towards individual and team performance targets and contribute to continuous improvement.

Required profile

• Empathetic, resilient and committed to helping people make positive life changes.
• Experience or interest in probation, social care, prison settings, rehabilitation, substance‑misuse support, mental health, housing outreach or coaching.
• Ability to build positive relationships with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
