About the role
We are looking for a resilient and highly organised Exclusion Unit Officer to join the pastoral team of a thriving secondary school in Newham. The role is central to the school’s behaviour management system, providing supervision and support for pupils placed in the Exclusion Unit and responding to on‑call incidents across the campus.
Key responsibilities
- Supervise students in the Exclusion Unit, ensuring they complete set work and stay focused throughout the day.
- Maintain accurate records of attendance, behaviour incidents and outcomes.
- Support pupils in reflecting on their actions and developing positive behaviour strategies.
- Collaborate with teaching staff, pastoral leaders and senior leaders to facilitate reintegration of pupils into lessons.
- Respond promptly to on‑call requests, patrol the school site, and safely escort students to the Exclusion Unit when required.
- De‑escalate challenging situations and assist staff in maintaining a calm, safe learning environment.
Required profile
- Experience working with young people, preferably in a school, alternative provision or youth‑work setting.
- Confidence in managing challenging behaviour calmly and professionally.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
- Resilience, proactivity and the capacity to work effectively under pressure.
- Strong organisational skills with attention to detail.
- Commitment to high expectations, inclusion and student success.
