Experienced Archaeologist (Andover)

About the role

Cotswold Archaeology is seeking an experienced archaeologist to join its fieldwork team in Andover. The role involves conducting archaeological investigations on both local and away projects, with accommodation and subsistence provided for extended fieldwork.

Key responsibilities

• Carry out fieldwalking, evaluation, excavation, finds processing, data entry and archiving.
• Record investigation data using pro‑formae, scale drawings, photographs and stratigraphic matrices.
• Supervise machine excavation, watch‑brief duties and GPS survey tasks.
• Mentor and train less‑experienced staff and contribute to project reports.

Required profile

• Demonstrable commercial field archaeology experience within a professional British practice.
• Ability to undertake rapid manual excavation and produce accurate stratigraphic matrices.
• Full manual driving licence with experience driving 4x4 vehicles, vans or minibuses.
• Willingness to work away from base, including extended periods.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Leica GPS equipment and GPS surveying.
• Experience in machine supervision and operation of CAT and Genny equipment.
• Competence in preparing and interpreting stratigraphic matrices.
