Experienced Archaeologist – Kemble

About the role

Cotswold Archaeology is seeking an Experienced Archaeologist to join its fieldwork team on projects based around Kemble. The role is full‑time on a six‑month fixed‑term contract and involves both on‑site excavation and away‑work assignments with accommodation provided.

Key responsibilities

• Carry out fieldwalking, evaluation, excavation, finds processing, data entry and archiving in line with company procedures.
• Record investigation data using pro‑forma sheets, scale drawings, photographs and Leica GPS equipment.
• Recover artefacts and environmental samples, supervise machine excavation and conduct GPS surveys.
• Mentor and train less‑experienced staff and assist the Project Leader with site supervision.

Required profile

• Demonstrable commercial field archaeology experience within a professional British practice.
• Ability to complete moderate‑complexity stratigraphic matrices and operate Leica GPS equipment.
• Full manual driving licence with confidence driving 4x4 vehicles, vans and minibuses.
• Willingness to undertake away work, including extended periods when required.

Required skills

• Leica GPS equipment operation.
• Machine supervision of excavation (watching brief).
• Use of CAT and Genny excavation equipment.
• Compilation of stratigraphic matrices.
• Driving 4x4 vehicles and minibuses.
