About the role
We are seeking a committed and experienced SEN Teaching Assistant to join a specialist school in Southend-on-Sea. The position can be full‑time or part‑time, long‑term, with the possibility of becoming permanent after a 12‑week trial.
Key responsibilities
- Provide 1:1 and small‑group support to pupils with autism and complex communication needs.
- Assist with personal care and promote communication development.
- Work collaboratively with teachers, therapists, and support staff to deliver a sensory‑rich learning environment.
- Help maintain a safe, calm and consistent daily routine.
Required profile
- Previous experience in SEND/SEN settings, including moderate learning disabilities.
- Ability to work across age ranges from Early Years to Secondary.
- Calm, nurturing and resilient approach.
- Willingness to start ASAP and complete a trial day or week.
Required skills
- PECS (Picture Exchange Communication System).
- Makaton sign language.
- Knowledge of sensory‑based learning techniques.
