Experienced SEN Tutor (Autism & Non-Verbal Learners) – Southend-on-Sea

About the role

We are looking for passionate SEN tutors to deliver one‑to‑one tuition for autistic learners, including non‑verbal or minimally verbal students, across Southend‑on‑Sea and surrounding areas. You will work directly with children and young people aged 5‑25, helping them build confidence, communication skills and academic progress.

Key responsibilities

• Provide personalised 1:1 tuition tailored to each learner’s strengths and needs.
• Adapt teaching methods and communication strategies for non‑verbal or minimally verbal students.
• Use visual, sensory and communication‑based approaches such as PECS, Makaton and AAC.
• Support learners’ confidence, engagement and independence.
• Build positive, trusting relationships with learners, families and professionals.
• Complete session reports and progress updates.

Required profile

• Minimum 1 year experience supporting autistic children or young people.
• Experience with non‑verbal or minimally verbal learners.
• Background in tutoring, teaching, youth work, support work or a similar role.
• Patient, flexible and nurturing approach with an understanding of neurodiversity‑affirming practice.
