About the role
We are seeking an experienced Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCo) to lead the SEND provision in a large primary school in Portsmouth. The school hosts a specialised SEN unit for pupils with autism and other additional needs, offering a nurturing and structured environment where every child can thrive academically and personally.
Key responsibilities
- Develop, implement and review the school’s SEND policy and practice.
- Work closely with senior leaders, teachers, families and external agencies to ensure high‑quality support for pupils.
- Monitor pupil progress, analyse data and report on statutory compliance.
- Lead inclusive practice, providing guidance and training to staff.
- Manage the SEN unit, coordinating resources and interventions.
Required profile
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
- National Award for SEN Coordination (NASENCo) or willingness to work towards it.
- Proven experience as a SENCo or in a SEND leadership role.
- Strong understanding of autism and effective support strategies.
- Excellent leadership, organisational and communication skills.
Required skills
- Knowledge of UK SEND legislation and best practice.
- Experience using pupil tracking and assessment tools.
