Experienced Social Worker – Assessment & Child Protection

About the role

We are seeking an experienced social worker to join Swindon Council’s Assessment and Child Protection team. The role involves delivering high‑quality social work services to children, young people and families, assessing risk and safeguarding children while working collaboratively with partner agencies.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct statutory Child and Family Assessments and Section 47 enquiries.
• Manage a diverse, complex caseload covering child protection, children in need, pre‑proceedings and care proceedings.
• Produce timely, high‑quality assessments, reports, care plans and court documentation.
• Develop and implement child protection and child‑in‑need plans.
• Build positive, child‑centred relationships with children, families and professionals.
• Participate in strategy meetings, protection conferences, core groups and looked‑after children reviews.
• Collaborate with schools, health services, police, legal teams and voluntary organisations.
• Maintain accurate case records using the council’s recording system.
• Support newly qualified social workers and less experienced colleagues.

Required profile

• Registered social worker with appropriate regulatory body.
• Proven experience in assessment and child protection work.
• Ability to manage complex cases and exercise sound professional judgement.
• Willingness to work full‑time on‑site in Swindon.
• Commitment to uphold statutory responsibilities and safeguarding legislation.
