External Communications Manager

About the role

The External Communications Manager will lead the communication strategy for the Secure Digital Exchange Communications (SDEC) project and other CCG digital initiatives. Working autonomously, you will ensure that complex operational and technical changes are translated into clear, actionable messages for customers, businesses, agents and other external audiences.

Key responsibilities

• Design and deliver external communications that support project milestones and outcomes.
• Produce and maintain GOV.UK content, stakeholder briefings, agent updates, guidance documents and targeted engagement materials.
• Collaborate with project teams, senior leaders and ministers to align messaging with delivery plans, risks and dependencies.
• Adapt communications activities in response to changing priorities, feedback and emerging issues.
• Identify and manage communications risks, ensuring proactive issue handling.
• Support senior leaders and ministers with concise updates that reflect delivery progress.

Required profile

• Proven experience in external communications, preferably within large‑scale digital transformation projects.
• Ability to translate complex technical change into clear, practical messages for diverse external audiences.
• Strong stakeholder management skills, including experience working with senior officials and ministers.
• High degree of autonomy and ability to work in a fast‑paced, evolving environment.
