Facilities Manager

About the role

We are looking for an experienced Facilities Manager to lead the management, maintenance and development of Frewen College’s historic estate in Northiam, East Sussex. Reporting to the Bursar, you will ensure the school’s buildings, grounds and facilities are safe, compliant and presented to the highest standards.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and develop the Estates, Grounds and Housekeeping teams.
• Manage statutory compliance, health, fire safety and risk management across the campus.
• Oversee planned and reactive maintenance programmes and deliver minor works and capital projects.
• Manage facilities, security systems, utilities, waste contracts and contractor performance.
• Maintain the school’s transport fleet, including minibuses.
• Support school events, commercial lettings and community partnerships.
• Contribute to sustainability and net‑zero objectives.

Required profile

• Proven experience in facilities, estates or maintenance management, preferably in an educational setting.
• Strong leadership, planning and organisational abilities.
• Relevant health and safety qualification (IOSH, NEBOSH or equivalent).
• Experience managing budgets, suppliers and contractors.
• Flexible, calm and proactive attitude with a willingness to be hands‑on.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
• Familiarity with help‑desk or facilities management systems.
