Facilities Officer

About the role

We are seeking a Facilities Officer to maintain and operate a busy office campus in Tavistock. The role is hands‑on and varied, covering planned and reactive maintenance, health‑and‑safety compliance and ensuring a clean, safe environment for staff and visitors.

Key responsibilities

• Carry out internal and external repair and maintenance tasks across office buildings and grounds.
• Perform planned preventative maintenance and respond to reactive requests.
• Execute basic plumbing, carpentry, electrical and general building works.
• Prioritise and act on facilities helpdesk requests based on urgency.
• Conduct Portable Appliance Testing (PAT) and keep accurate records.
• Identify, report and resolve health and safety hazards.
• Liaise with contractors, ensuring risk assessments and safety procedures are in place.
• Assist with meeting‑room setups and maintain high presentation standards.
• Support fire‑safety procedures, alarm testing and act as Fire Warden.
• Manage key control and access‑control systems.
• Build strong relationships with staff, visitors, contractors and suppliers.

Required profile

• Previous experience in facilities management, property maintenance or a similar environment.
• Trade qualification or proven experience in plumbing, carpentry, electrical work or general maintenance.
• Knowledge of health and safety regulations and safe working practices.
• Strong organisational ability to handle multiple priorities.
• Good IT skills and familiarity with maintenance management systems.
• Excellent communication and customer‑service orientation.
• Proactive, flexible and able to work independently.
