About the role

Join Wigan Council as a Family Help Deputy Manager and help lead a dedicated team delivering family‑centred support. Working closely with the Practice Manager, you will supervise a group of Family Help Practitioners and ensure high‑quality outcomes for children and families.

Key responsibilities

• Supervise approximately six Family Help workers and support the Practice Manager in day‑to‑day operations.
• Provide coaching, guidance and whole‑family supervision to practitioners.
• Oversee complex cases, ensuring effective decision‑making and safeguarding compliance.
• Monitor the quality of assessments, care plans and interventions.
• Collaborate with partner agencies such as schools, health services, police and voluntary organisations.
• Manage workload, case allocation and performance monitoring.
• Contribute to audits, quality assurance activities and service improvement initiatives.
• Assist with recruitment, staff development and performance management.
• Deputise for the Practice Manager, providing operational leadership when required.

Required profile

• Experience supervising a team of social‑care practitioners.
• Strong understanding of safeguarding legislation and procedures.
• Ability to work collaboratively with external agencies.
• Commitment to strengths‑based, relationship‑focused, child‑centred approaches.
• Willingness to undertake an Enhanced DBS disclosure.

Required skills

• Knowledge of case management processes.
• Familiarity with safeguarding policies and best practice.
