Field Engineer – Telecommunications

About the role

We are seeking a Field Engineer to deliver excellence for our customer by providing professional field engineering services across Scottish Power’s strategic telecommunications network in Scotland. The role supports Vodafone’s contract, offering 24 × 7 × 365 first‑line assurance and routine maintenance for key utility suppliers.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver projects on time, within cost, quality, health & safety parameters and Vodafone standards.
• Complete required project documentation and maintain accurate records.
• Monitor progress, identify risks, and recommend corrective actions.
• Provide timely communication to all stakeholders and report updates to Vodafone’s service support desk.
• Perform 1st‑line assurance activities 24 × 7 × 365, meeting contractual SLA targets.
• Execute nominated RMI activities and suggest improvements or cost reductions.
• Ensure technical, test and quality plans are executed as agreed.
• Adhere to Scottish Power work authorizations and health & safety requirements.

Required profile

• Proven technical knowledge of networking principles and experience in both provision and assurance delivery.
• Demonstrable engineering installation and commissioning experience, especially in utility environments.
• Exceptional organisational skills and a positive, can‑do attitude.
• Full UK driving licence and ability to work in a fast‑paced, field‑based environment.
• Willingness to obtain Scottish Power authorisations (training provided).

Required skills

• Installation and support of Commtel, SDH, PDH, Radio and Xtran equipment.
• Routing, switching and IP networking (WAN, LAN, MPLS).
• Network monitoring, troubleshooting and maintenance.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Teams and Microsoft Office.
• Experience with DC charger installation and support.
