Field Interviewer – Hull (Part‑time)

About the role

Join NatCen’s research team as a Field Interviewer in Hull, visiting households to gather first‑hand information on health, housing, transport and other public‑interest topics. This is a community‑focused, part‑time position that lets you contribute to evidence‑based policy while working on your own schedule.

Key responsibilities

• Visit households in the Hull area to conduct face‑to‑face research interviews on topics such as health, housing and transport.
• Use a tablet or laptop to record responses and ensure data quality.
• Knock on doors, introduce yourself, and manage situations where participants decline or are unavailable.
• Travel to interview locations, log mileage and travel time as required.

Required profile

• Valid UK driving licence and sole use of a car with Class 1 business insurance.
• Right to work in the UK and willingness to undergo a DBS check.
• Reliable home broadband and a laptop or tablet with a camera.
• At least 18 hours of availability per week and flexibility for weekdays, evenings and weekends.
• Strong verbal and written English.

Required skills

• Basic computer operation (tablet or laptop) with ability to capture data.

What we offer

• £20‑£30 per interview, plus admin fees, holiday pay, travel time (£4.68 / hour) and mileage reimbursement (36p / mile).
• Performance bonuses (£250 after launch and at two‑month intervals).
• Average hourly rate of about £15.12, higher for experienced interviewers.
