Field Interviewer – Part‑time (Romford)

About the role

As a Field Interviewer you will visit households in the Romford area to conduct face‑to‑face research interviews on topics such as health, housing and transport. Using a tablet or laptop you will record participants' real‑life experiences, helping NatCen produce evidence that shapes public policy.

Key responsibilities

• Knock on doors and introduce yourself to residents who have been pre‑contacted by letter.
• Conduct structured interviews using a tablet or laptop, ensuring accurate data capture.
• Handle refusals professionally and maintain a positive, courteous demeanor.
• Log travel time, mileage and any administrative fees in line with project guidelines.
• Maintain confidentiality and complete required DBS and background checks.

Required profile

• Valid UK driving licence and sole use of a car.
• Class 1 business insurance.
• Right to work in the UK.
• Willingness to undergo a DBS check.
• Reliable home broadband and a laptop or tablet with a camera.
• At least 18 hours available per week with flexibility for weekdays, evenings and weekends.
• Strong verbal and written English.

Required skills

• Basic computer operation (tablet and laptop).
• Ability to use data‑collection software on a mobile device.

What we offer

• £20‑£30 per completed interview (average hourly rate ≈ £15.12).
• Admin fees and holiday pay (12.1%).
• Travel time paid at £4.68 per hour and mileage at 36p per mile (up to 10,000 miles).
• £250 bonus after launch, with two further £250 bonuses at two‑month intervals.
