Field Interviewer – Western Isles (Part‑time)

About the role

Join Natcen Social Research as a Field Interviewer working in the Western Isles. You will visit households, conduct face‑to‑face research interviews on topics such as health, housing and transport, and record the conversations using a tablet or laptop. This is a community‑based, part‑time position that requires you to be comfortable working independently in the field.

Key responsibilities

• Knock on doors and introduce yourself to residents who have received a prior invitation letter.
• Conduct structured interviews using a tablet or laptop, ensuring accurate capture of respondents’ experiences.
• Manage interview schedules, travel to designated areas, and adhere to agreed‑upon time slots.
• Maintain professionalism and confidentiality throughout each interview.
• Submit interview data promptly and report any issues to the project coordinator.

Required profile

• Valid UK driving licence and sole use of a car.
• Class 1 business insurance for vehicle use.
• Right to work in the UK and willingness to undergo a DBS check.
• Reliable home broadband and a laptop or tablet with a camera.
• At least 18 hours per week availability and flexibility for weekdays, evenings and weekends.

Required skills

• Comfortable using basic technology (tablet or laptop) to record interview data.
• Ability to navigate local roads safely and efficiently.

What we offer

• £20‑£30 per completed interview, plus admin fees and holiday pay (12.1%).
• Travel compensation at £4.68 per hour and mileage reimbursement at 36p per mile (up to 10,000 miles).
• Performance bonuses: £250 after launch, then additional £250 at two and four months.
• Average hourly rate of approximately £15.12, with higher earnings for experienced interviewers.
• Flexible part‑time schedule that can be fitted around other commitments.
