Finance Assistant

About the role

We are seeking a Finance Assistant to support the Head of Finance on a 9‑month fixed‑term contract in St Albans. Working closely with an experienced finance leader, you will gain exposure to a broad range of financial activities and become an integral part of a collaborative team.

Key responsibilities

• Assist in the preparation of monthly management accounts and financial reports.
• Prepare profit and loss schedules and reconcile bank accounts.
• Process supplier invoices, transfers and maintain accurate financial records.
• Support VAT returns, payroll journals and pension reporting.
• Contribute to budgeting, annual audit preparation and fee‑target monitoring.
• Work with the legal cashiering team to support finance operations.
• Help develop and improve finance processes and reporting.
• Provide ad‑hoc support to partners and senior stakeholders.

Required profile

• Previous experience as an Accounts Assistant or Finance Assistant.
• Good understanding of double‑entry bookkeeping and core accounting principles.
• Strong attention to detail and organisational ability.
• Proactive attitude with a willingness to learn.
• Comfortable communicating with a variety of business stakeholders.

Required skills

• Advanced Excel, including data manipulation and report generation.
