Finance Director

About the role

The Finance Director will lead the finance function of a well‑established law firm in Tonbridge. Reporting to the Partners and working closely with the Management Board, you will shape financial strategy, ensure regulatory compliance and drive operational excellence.

Key responsibilities

• Manage the accounts team and oversee all aspects of office and client accounting, including SAR compliance, bank reconciliation, petty cash, purchase ledger, payroll, VAT returns and treasury.
• Provide comprehensive financial information to Partners on a weekly, monthly and quarterly basis.
• Maintain and optimise the firm’s financial systems for efficient use across the business.
• Lead budgeting, financial planning and credit management, including cash‑flow and work‑in‑progress control.
• Prepare final accounts and manage relationships with bankers, insurers and external accountants.
• Handle partner balances, capital accounts, taxation reserves and calculate partner drawings.
• Co‑ordinate renewal of professional indemnity and other office insurances with the Head of Operational Risk & Compliance.

Required profile

• Strong knowledge of Solicitors Accounting Rules.
• Proven experience running an accounts department within a legal firm.
• Member of a recognised accountancy body (ACA, ACCA or CIMA preferred).
• Excellent communication, organisational and detail‑oriented skills.
• Ability to identify training needs and develop staff.
