Finance Manager – 6‑Month Fixed‑Term Contract

About the role

This is a six‑month fixed‑term opportunity with a well‑established professional services firm in Edinburgh. Reporting to the CFO, you will lead the day‑to‑day finance function while providing commercial insight to support strategic decisions.

Key responsibilities

• Manage daily finance operations and set team priorities.
• Prepare monthly management accounts, including adjustments and balance‑sheet reconciliations.
• Supervise and mentor a Finance Assistant to ensure accurate, timely processing.
• Maintain compliance with accounting standards and robust financial controls.
• Act as the internal expert for the practice‑management system, supporting users across the business.
• Deliver financial analysis and business insights for operational and commercial decision‑making.
• Build strong stakeholder relationships and provide finance business‑partnering support.
• Oversee credit control and assist with cash‑flow management.
• Prepare quarterly VAT returns and support year‑end statutory reporting.
• Contribute to change initiatives, process improvements, and finance‑related projects.

Required profile

• Qualified accountant (ACCA, CA, CIMA or equivalent) preferred.
• Proven experience in financial management, reporting and operational finance.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to partner with non‑finance stakeholders.
• Strong analytical capability and attention to detail.
• Experience leading or supervising finance team members.
• Adaptable, collaborative and comfortable in a fast‑paced environment.
