Finance Manager – Freight Forwarding

About the role

We are partnering with an established freight forwarder to recruit a Finance Manager who will lead the accounts function. The role involves full ownership of the finance cycle, from day‑to‑day processing to strategic reporting.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee the Accounts Department and manage a team of up to three staff members.
• Handle all aspects of Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, sales ledger, billing and credit control.
• Complete bank and VAT reconciliations and ensure accurate financial records.
• Liaise with senior management and external accountants as required.
• Supervise processing of sales and purchase invoices, resolve queries and discrepancies.
• Produce and analyse P&L statements, aged debtor reports, budgets and payroll information.
• Provide regular financial updates to senior leadership.
• Recruit, train and support a trainee/apprentice for the purchase ledger function.

Required profile

• Proven experience across all finance and accounts functions.
• Previous managerial or team‑leadership experience.
• Strong background in freight forwarding, cargo, logistics or shipping.
• AAT qualification or equivalent accounting training.
• Advanced knowledge of Sage 50.
• Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail.

What we offer

• Competitive salary £30,000‑£45,000 per year, dependent on experience.
• Full‑time permanent role, Monday‑Friday 9:00‑17:30.
