Finance Manager – Legal Services

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Finance Manager to lead the finance function of a well‑established specialist law firm in the City of London. Reporting directly to senior leadership, you will own the day‑to‑day finance operations, ensuring accuracy, compliance and insightful reporting.

Key responsibilities

• Manage daily legal cashiering activities – payments, receipts, transfers, billing and account reconciliations.
• Produce monthly management accounts, budgets and financial reports.
• Ensure compliance with Solicitors Accounts Rules and maintain client and office account records.
• Support external audits and liaise with accountants and professional advisers.
• Oversee payroll, pension administration and statutory submissions.
• Handle VAT, PAYE, National Insurance and other regulatory reporting requirements.
• Manage billing, disbursements and supplier payments.
• Maintain and improve finance systems, controls and processes.
• Assist wider compliance and risk‑management activities as needed.

Required profile

• Previous experience in a law‑firm finance team.
• Strong knowledge of Solicitors Accounts Rules.
• Background in legal cashiering, bookkeeping and management accounting.
• Experience supporting audits and financial reporting.
• Excellent organisational skills, attention to detail and ability to work independently.
• Accounting qualification advantageous but not mandatory.
