Finance Officer

About the role

We are seeking a Finance Officer to join a small, supportive finance team within a well‑established not‑for‑profit organisation that operates internationally. The role is predominantly remote, with occasional visits to our London office, and offers the chance to own financial processes that impact programmes across multiple countries.

Key responsibilities

• Manage day‑to‑day finance activities, including UK and international payments.
• Process weekly payroll and support related payroll functions.
• Prepare and post journals, accruals and pre‑payments.
• Complete balance‑sheet reconciliations and maintain accurate financial records.
• Support month‑end close, ensuring clear audit trails.
• Assist with funding transfers to programme partners in various jurisdictions.
• Work with grant and programme teams on invoicing and finance queries.
• Provide guidance on purchase orders, coding and approval processes.
• Investigate discrepancies and resolve reconciliation issues.
• Identify opportunities to improve processes and strengthen controls.

Required profile

• Strong experience in a finance role with a solid understanding of finance operations.
• Proven ability to prepare and review profit and loss accounts.
• Excellent balance‑sheet reconciliation skills.
• Good knowledge of double‑entry bookkeeping and purchase ledger processes.
• High attention to detail and ability to manage financial data accurately.
• Independent working style with initiative.
• Strong communication and stakeholder‑management abilities.
