Finance Team Leader

About the role

The Finance Team Leader will oversee the day‑to‑day finance function for the Bellingham District Office, ensuring accurate and timely processing of financial transactions while supporting the district’s strategic objectives.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the business support and finance team to meet monthly, quarterly and year‑end timetables.
• Conduct regular 1‑2‑1 meetings, set objectives aligned with district strategy, and manage performance.
• Identify training needs, promote cross‑functional training and ensure health and safety compliance.
• Process transactions in line with Forestry England procedures, including coding, VAT treatment and delegation of authority.
• Oversee cash account reconciliations and month‑end closing activities (accruals, provisions, capitalisation).
• Assist in preparing the district’s annual business plan, monthly management reports, forecasts and finance workbooks.
• Monitor budgets, analyse variances and provide financial insights.
• Act as finance liaison for district audits and maintain high‑level customer service with internal and external stakeholders.

Required profile

• Proven leadership experience in a finance or business support environment.
• Strong understanding of public‑sector financial policies and procedures.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder‑management skills.
• Commitment to continuous improvement, wellbeing and team collaboration.
