Financial Controller – 12‑month maternity cover

About the role

Butler Rose is recruiting a Financial Controller for a 12‑month maternity cover in Somerset. This fully site‑based position reports to the CFO and leads the central finance function, delivering accurate reporting and strategic insight for the business.

Key responsibilities

• Lead, manage and develop the finance team on a day‑to‑day basis
• Oversee all payment processes, ensuring accuracy, compliance and timeliness
• Manage month‑end and year‑end close processes in line with reporting deadlines
• Review monthly management accounts, including reconciliations, accruals and pre‑payments
• Oversee payroll processes to ensure compliance and accuracy
• Maintain and enhance financial controls, systems and processes
• Support budgeting and forecasting activities
• Ensure compliance with statutory reporting, tax and audit requirements
• Partner with operational teams and senior stakeholders to provide financial insight
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives and support finance projects

Required profile

• Proven experience in a Financial Controller or similar senior finance role
• Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent preferred)
• Strong leadership and team‑management experience
• Excellent understanding of financial controls, reporting and accounting processes
• Experience overseeing payments, payroll and month‑end processes
• Strong communication skills with the ability to influence stakeholders
• Highly organised and able to thrive in a fast‑paced environment
