Financial Controller – Construction & Civil Engineering

About the role

A well‑established building and civil engineering business with over 40 years of history is seeking an ambitious Financial Controller to join its Northamptonshire team. The role offers a clear progression path towards a Finance Director position within a fast‑growing organisation.

Key responsibilities

• Compile monthly management accounts for a group of companies.
• Prepare and submit monthly VAT returns for the group.
• Line‑manage the Accounts Manager and other accounts staff.
• Liaise with financial institutions.
• Maintain and manage the asset register.
• Oversee procurement activities to ensure alignment with company accounts.
• Identify and implement strategic tax efficiency measures to maximise relief and investment opportunities.

Required profile

• Finance qualification (CIMA, ACCA, ACA) or degree; qualified by experience accepted.
• Commercially‑focused mindset with ability to view the business holistically.
• Experience leading a finance function, preferably within construction or civil engineering.
• Aspiration to progress to a Finance Director role.
