Financial Controller – Construction

About the role

We are seeking an ambitious Financial Controller to join a well‑established building and civil engineering business in Northamptonshire. The role offers a clear progression path towards a Finance Director position within a rapidly growing construction company.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and analyse monthly management accounts for a group of companies.
• Compile and submit monthly VAT returns.
• Line‑manage the Accounts Manager and other accounting staff.
• Liaise with banks and other financial institutions.
• Maintain and oversee the company’s asset register.
• Supervise procurement activities to ensure alignment with financial controls.
• Identify and implement tax‑efficient strategies to maximise reliefs and investment opportunities.

Required profile

• Relevant finance qualification (CIMA, ACCA, ACA) or degree; candidates with equivalent experience are also considered.
• Proven commercial finance experience, preferably within construction, building services or civil engineering.
• Strong business acumen with the ability to influence strategic decisions.
• Aspiration to progress to a Finance Director role.
