Financial Controller – Finance Leadership Role

About the role

We are seeking an experienced and commercially minded Financial Controller to join our finance leadership team in St Albans. Reporting directly to the CFO, you will be responsible for financial reporting, audit management, compliance, controls and the day‑to‑day leadership of the finance function. This role offers significant exposure to senior stakeholders and the chance to drive major systems and process improvements.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee all bookkeeping, accounting and month‑end processes and produce accurate monthly, quarterly and annual management accounts.
• Lead the preparation of statutory accounts and manage annual and interim audit processes.
• Maintain the chart of accounts and financial reporting framework within SAP.
• Lead annual and interim audits, manage relationships with external auditors and ensure robust financial controls.
• Prepare quarterly VAT returns, support corporation tax, capital allowances and R&D tax claims.
• Review aged debtors, manage operational and capital expenditure payment runs, and prepare cash‑flow reports for lenders.
• Drive finance system integration and process improvements to enhance reporting accuracy.
• Lead, mentor and develop the finance team, fostering a high‑performance culture.

Required profile

• ACA or ACCA qualified.
• Strong experience in financial reporting, management accounting and financial analysis.
• Proven leadership and people‑management experience.
• Advanced Excel and systems skills.
