Financial Controller

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Financial Controller to lead the finance function for a growing client in the construction and engineering sector. You will be responsible for ensuring robust financial controls, accurate reporting and providing strategic insight to senior leadership.

Key responsibilities

• Lead day‑to‑day finance operations, maintaining strong financial controls and accurate reporting.
• Prepare and oversee monthly management accounts, financial reports and budgets.
• Manage cash flow, working capital and financial planning activities.
• Develop and maintain effective financial processes, systems and controls.
• Oversee payroll, VAT returns, CIS reporting and statutory compliance.
• Monitor project and contract performance, delivering financial analysis and recommendations.
• Handle WIP reporting, revenue recognition and payment applications in line with accounting standards.
• Support annual budgets, forecasts and long‑term financial plans.
• Liaise with external auditors, banks and professional advisers.
• Mentor and develop members of the finance team.

Required profile

• ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent professional qualification.
• Proven experience as a Financial Controller, Senior Finance Manager or similar leadership role.
• Experience in construction, contracting, engineering or project‑based environments is highly desirable.
• Strong knowledge of financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting and cash‑flow management.
• Leadership and people‑management experience, with a track record of developing finance teams.
