Financial Controller

About the role

The company, a PE‑backed multi‑divisional services group, is looking for an experienced Divisional Financial Controller to own the end‑to‑end financial control and month‑end close for a major operating division. Based in Glasgow, you will work closely with the Divisional Finance Director and the Group Financial Controller to deliver accurate, commentary‑ready financial information that drives commercial performance and strategic decision‑making.

Key responsibilities

• Manage the full divisional month‑end close, including trial balance, journal entries, P&L review and balance‑sheet sign‑off.
• Review trial balances against prior month, budget and forecast, identifying adjustments and directing the General Accounting team.
• Oversee management accountants on revenue, direct‑cost and material accruals.
• Apply judgement‑based accounting for revenue, work‑in‑progress, direct costs and provisions.
• Challenge and validate revenue recognition, accruals, provisions and other accounting judgments.
• Produce and sign‑off the divisional results pack and submit accurate data to Group Reporting on schedule.
• Provide the Divisional Finance Director with commentary on actuals, run‑rate performance and accounting movements.
• Act as first escalation point for accounting policy and process queries within the division.
• Ensure compliance with group accounting policies, processes and reporting standards.
• Collaborate with the FP&A Centre of Excellence on management information, forecasting and planning cycles.

Required profile

• Fully qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA or equivalent).
• Significant experience in divisional financial control and month‑end close.
• Strong technical accounting knowledge, especially in revenue recognition, accruals and provisions.
• Proven ability to produce accurate financial commentary for senior stakeholders.
• Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.
