Financial Controller

About the role

We are seeking an ambitious Financial Controller to join a well‑established building and civil engineering business in Northamptonshire. The role offers a clear progression path to Finance Director and involves commercial finance responsibilities across a group of construction companies.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare monthly management accounts for the group of companies.
• Compile and submit monthly VAT returns.
• Line‑manage the Accounts Manager and other accounts staff.
• Liaise with financial institutions and manage banking relationships.
• Maintain the asset register and oversee procurement alignment with accounts.
• Identify and implement tax efficiency strategies.

Required profile

• Relevant finance qualification (CIMA, ACCA, ACA) or equivalent experience.
• Proven commercial finance experience, preferably within construction or civil engineering.
• Ability to take a strategic view of the business and influence change.
• Experience managing a small finance team.
