Financial Controller

About the role

The charity operates across the UK and internationally and needs a Financial Controller to own the day‑to‑day finance function. Reporting to the Finance Director, you will ensure accurate reporting, strong controls and insightful analysis to support the organisation's mission.

Key responsibilities

• Supervise a small finance team.
• Prepare monthly management accounts for the charity group.
• Lead budgeting, forecasting and cash‑flow planning across the group.
• Prepare and oversee statutory and charity accounts in line with the Charities SORP.
• Produce financial analysis, variance reporting and commentary.
• Manage balance‑sheet reconciliations.
• Oversee VAT returns, payroll reporting and other statutory submissions.
• Compile board reports and financial packs.
• Ensure compliance with HMRC, Companies House and other regulators.
• Maintain accurate financial records using Xero.

Required profile

• Fully qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA or CIMA).
• Experience in the charity or not‑for‑profit sector is desirable.
• Strong background in management accounts, statutory accounts and consolidated group reporting.
• Advanced proficiency in Xero and Excel.
• Previous experience managing or supervising staff.
