Financial Controller

About the role

A leading London Market insurer is looking for an experienced Financial Controller to head the Financial Accounting & Reporting function. Reporting directly to the CFO, the role combines statutory, regulatory, management and group reporting with a focus on control, governance and continuous improvement.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the production of monthly management accounts with analysis and commentary.
• Oversee month‑end close, maintain general ledger integrity and manage insurance/reinsurance accounting.
• Prepare statutory accounts under FRS 102 and FRS 103 and manage the external audit process.
• Deliver quarterly IFRS 17 reporting for group consolidation.
• Support budgeting and forecasting together with the FP&A team.
• Produce and submit Solvency UK regulatory returns and coordinate overseas regulatory reporting where required.
• Collaborate with actuarial teams on reserving, technical provisions and IFRS 17 calculations.
• Mentor and develop a high‑performing financial reporting team and drive process improvements.
• Contribute to finance transformation initiatives, system enhancements and reporting upgrades.

Required profile

• Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA or equivalent) with significant post‑qualification experience in the London Market or general insurance.
• Extensive experience in statutory, management and group reporting.
• Strong technical knowledge of FRS 102/103 and Solvency UK reporting.
• Proven ability to work with actuarial teams on reserving and technical provisions.
• Track record of strengthening financial controls, governance and leading finance teams.
• Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.
• Experience with finance transformation or systems improvement projects.
