Financial Controller

About the role

This role leads the management accounting and financial control function and is responsible for the integrity, accuracy and timeliness of financial reporting. It also has line management responsibility for four Management Accountants and plays a key part in maintaining a strong financial control environment. The position is advertised as a fixed-term contract.

Key responsibilities

• Lead month-end and quarter-end processes so that reporting is accurate and delivered to agreed timelines
• Oversee judgemental areas such as provisions, non-recurring costs and accruals, keeping them consistent with accounting policies and standards
• Review pre-close outputs with FP&A and the Finance Director, feeding into monthly management reports and quarterly board reporting
• Own and sign off balance sheet integrity, including reviewing and approving balance sheet reconciliations
• Support a robust financial control environment, including documentation and evidence for key controls
• Oversee cash flow forecasting, challenging cash assumptions and working capital movements
• Oversight and coordination of the full audit process, including financial statements, impairment and accounting papers on significant estimates and Going Concern
• Coordinate with Group Tax for timely and accurate tax submissions and review and approve regulatory returns to the FCAS
• Support quarterly attestation processes and lead and develop the Management Accounts team
• Ensure compliance with Group accounting policies and statutory standards, and identify process improvements to strengthen financial control and efficiency

Required profile

• Fully qualified accountant (ACA/ACCA)
• Proven experience managing finance teams
• Experience managing audits and working with external auditors
• Strong communicator able to challenge constructively and influence senior stakeholders
• Detail-oriented, proactive on process improvement and collaborative across finance functions

Required skills

• Strong technical accounting knowledge (FRS 102 and IFRS)
• Knowledge of Group accounting policies and statutory standards
