Financial Controller – Lead Finance Function

About the role

As the Financial Controller at Protein Works you will lead the day‑to‑day finance function, reporting directly to the CFO. You will own the monthly close, management accounts, cash management and ensure the integrity of the balance sheet while turning financial data into commercial insight.

Key responsibilities

• Run daily finance operations, delivering accurate and timely financial reporting.
• Own the monthly close, management accounts, KPI reporting and board pack preparation.
• Maintain working capital discipline and balance‑sheet integrity.
• Lead budgeting, forecasting cycles and cash‑management including liquidity planning and cash‑flow forecasting.
• Manage Sage 200 and ensure seamless integration with other business systems and the data warehouse.
• Strengthen financial processes, reconciliations and internal controls, championing automation and data‑quality improvements.
• Act as primary contact for auditors, tax advisors, banks and payment providers.
• Collaborate with Finance Business Partner to provide actionable commercial insight to operational and marketing teams.
• Manage, mentor and develop the finance and accounting team, setting clear performance goals.

Required profile

• Proven experience leading a finance function in a fast‑growing environment.
• Strong commercial mindset with ability to translate numbers into business decisions.
• Excellent stakeholder management, including external advisors and financial institutions.
• Hands‑on problem‑solver comfortable with detailed reconciliations and senior‑level presentations.
• Track record of building and developing high‑performing finance teams.
