Financial Controller – £60-80k, hybrid, East Sussex

About the role

The company is a privately‑owned SME based in Crawley, looking for a Financial Controller to strengthen financial controls, improve reporting quality and support the next phase of growth. Working closely with the Finance Director, you will own monthly management accounts, VAT, corporation tax, CIS and cash‑flow management.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and analyse monthly management accounts and financial reports.
• Manage VAT, corporation tax and CIS compliance.
• Lead budgeting, forecasting and cash‑flow management processes.
• Maintain and enhance finance systems and reporting tools.
• Provide strategic financial analysis and support to the Board.

Required profile

• Fully qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA or CIMA) – essential.
• Proven experience producing monthly management accounts, budgets and forecasts.
• Sector experience in engineering, construction, property development or facilities management (audit or industry).
• Background in a small‑to‑medium business with turnover up to £80 million.
• Potential to recruit and lead a finance team in the future.
