Financial Controls Manager (Subsidiary Companies)

About the role

The Financial Controls Manager will act as the primary liaison between the University of Edinburgh and its network of subsidiary companies. The role focuses on building a robust reporting framework, delivering clear financial health checks, and providing insight into cash and inter‑company transactions for senior university leadership.

Key responsibilities

• Serve as the main finance contact for each subsidiary, ensuring timely, accurate data flow to the parent university.
• Bridge subsidiary finance teams and the university’s central finance function to maintain a transparent view of group‑wide financial position.
• Oversee inter‑company account reconciliation, monitor variances, and present consolidated exposure to the Monthly Balance Sheet Review.
• Support the Subsidiary Oversight Group in enforcing the revised subsidiary policy framework and tax‑efficient practices.
• Collaborate with Financial Planning & Analysis to produce monthly group management accounts and forecasts.

Required profile

• Proven experience in financial reporting and control within a multi‑entity environment.
• Strong understanding of inter‑company transactions, reconciliation processes, and group accounting.
• Ability to communicate financial information clearly to senior stakeholders.
• Experience working with university or public sector finance structures is advantageous.
