Financial Services Operations Manager

About the role

Nigel Wright Group, in partnership with Northern Powergrid, is seeking a Finance Services Operations Manager to lead a critical finance function during a period of transformation. The role oversees a team of around 35 staff across Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable, ensuring high‑quality service and supporting the organisation’s shift toward smarter, low‑carbon energy systems.

Key responsibilities

• Lead day‑to‑day AP and AR operations, guaranteeing accuracy, timeliness and service quality.
• Support teams in meeting agreed service levels and regulatory expectations.
• Develop people capability, engagement and performance through visible, supportive leadership.
• Collaborate with Finance, Customer Services, Procurement and wider business stakeholders.
• Contribute to the design and implementation of future‑state processes, automation and system improvements.
• Maintain strong governance, controls and audit readiness.

Required profile

• Proven experience in leading large finance operations teams, preferably in a utility or energy‑focused environment.
• Hands‑on leadership style with the ability to gain credibility and trust from operational staff.
• Strong stakeholder management skills across multiple business functions.
• Ability to drive change, embed automation and deliver measurable performance improvements.
